Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Most windshield replacements at Southwest Auto Glass take 45 to 60 minutes. After installation, we recommend waiting at least one hour before driving to allow the urethane adhesive to properly cure. If your vehicle requires ADAS recalibration — common on newer cars , allow an additional 30 to 45 minutes. We offer same-day appointments across El Paso, Las Cruces, and Alamogordo.
Yes, in most cases. If you carry comprehensive auto insurance, windshield replacement is typically covered subject to your deductible. Texas law does not require zero-deductible glass coverage, unlike some states, so your out-of-pocket cost depends on your policy. Southwest Auto Glass works directly with State Farm, Geico, Progressive, USAA, Allstate, Nationwide, and most other major carriers : we handle the claim paperwork for you.
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) glass is made by the same supplier that produced your vehicle’s original windshield and meets exact factory specifications for fit, thickness, and tint. Aftermarket glass is made by independent manufacturers — brands like PPG, Pilkington, Carlite, and Guardian — and meets or exceeds federal safety standards. Southwest Auto Glass installs only quality-certified aftermarket glass from these trusted brands, and we carry OEM when your vehicle requires it for ADAS sensor compatibility.
Our technicians use urethane adhesive with a Safe Drive Away Time (SDAT) of approximately one hour under normal El Paso temperatures. However, extreme heat , which is common in West Texas , can accelerate curing, and cold weather can slow it. We’ll give you an exact drive-away time when your service is complete. To protect the seal, avoid car washes, hard slamming of doors, and pressure washing for at least 24 hours after replacement.
Texas vehicle inspections can fail a windshield if cracks or chips obstruct the driver’s view or fall within the critical viewing area — roughly the area swept by your wipers. A crack longer than ¾ inch in the driver’s direct line of sight is typically an automatic inspection failure. If your vehicle inspection is coming up, Southwest Auto Glass can assess the damage and complete a same-day replacement in El Paso to get you back on the road legally.
Yes. El Paso’s intense desert heat , regularly exceeding 100°F in summer which can cause small chips to spread rapidly as glass expands and contracts. For replacements, high ambient temperatures can slightly accelerate adhesive curing, which is generally beneficial. We schedule mobile replacements in shaded locations when possible and adjust our adhesive selection seasonally. If you have a chip, don’t wait , El Paso heat turns repairable chips into full cracks within days.
Yes. Southwest Auto Glass provides a lifetime workmanship warranty on all windshield replacements for the life of the vehicle under original ownership. This covers leaks, wind noise, and any defects in installation. The warranty does not cover new damage caused by rocks, road debris, vandalism, or accidents, those events are not workmanship defects. Bring your vehicle back to any of our El Paso locations at no charge if you experience an installation-related issue.
We install glass from industry-leading manufacturers including PPG, Pilkington, Carlite, Guardian, Mopar, Curtis-Rand, and Burco. All products meet or exceed DOT (Department of Transportation) and ANSI safety standards. For vehicles with advanced camera systems or heated windshields, we source glass with the correct coatings and mounting points required for proper ADAS sensor function.
